Stephen Del Rosso

Stephen Del Rosso recently stepped down as vice president of the international program at the Carnegie Corporation of New York (now renamed the Andrew Carnegie Foundation) after a decades-long career at the grantmaking foundation. While overseeing work across the program, he had direct grantmaking responsibilities in several areas, including work related to China, regional Track II diplomacy, peacebuilding in Africa, quantum international relations, and bridging the gap between the academic and policy worlds. Previously director of programs at the Chicago Council on Foreign Relations, he also managed the global security program at The Pew Charitable Trusts.

Del Rosso served for a decade in the U.S. Foreign Service with overseas assignments in Central America and the Caribbean and in Washington as staff officer to Secretary of State George Shultz, among other assignments. He was also a presidential management fellow at NASA, a news producer at Voice of America, and a research assistant to a British parliamentarian. Del Rosso holds a PhD in political science from the University of Pennsylvania; a master of arts in law and diplomacy from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, where he was an Earhart Fellow; and a diploma in international studies from the Bologna Center of the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.

He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the International Institute of Strategic Studies. He has served on several NGO boards, is the author and contributor of various international affairs and public policy publications, and has taught courses on nationalism and international politics.
