The Center for a New American Security (CNAS) is pleased to announce the creation of the William J. Perry Chair in Strategic Studies. The chair honors Dr. Perry’s extraordinary record as a public servant, strategist, business leader and scholar as well as his role as the founding Chairman of the CNAS Board of Directors.

Dr. Perry’s exceptional career spans the public sector, the private sector and academia. While serving in the government, he promoted the development of stealth aircraft and other advanced technologies that now give the U.S. military unparalleled capabilities. He also sought to prevent future threats to the United States, most notably through denuclearization initiatives after the collapse of the Soviet Union. He has extensive business experience in the technology sector, and currently serves as a director of several technology companies. Additionally, Dr. Perry taught engineering for many years at Stanford University, where he co-directed the Center for International Security and Cooperation.

The William J. Perry Chair in Strategic Studies will be held by the Chief Executive Officer of CNAS. The CEO will contribute to informed public debate on vital national security issues; mentor the next generation of national security leaders; and promote research and analysis on topics such as U.S. national security, defense acquisition and platforms, technological change, conventional and nuclear deterrence, and American grand strategy.
