Pete Briger of Fortress Investment Group Joins CNAS Board of Advisors

Washington, March 31 – The Center for a New American Security (CNAS) announced today that Pete Briger, Principal and Co-Chairman of the Board of Directors of Fortress Investment Group, LLC, has joined the CNAS Board of Advisors. As a member of the Board, Mr. Briger will actively contribute to the development and execution of the organization’s intellectual agenda. The Board of Advisors is comprised of prominent leaders from the private sector, academia, the military, and government who help inform the Center’s research and expand its community of interest.

“We are excited to have someone as knowledgeable, dedicated, and engaged as Pete join our Board of Advisors,” said CNAS Chief Executive Officer Michèle Flournoy. “The Board of Advisors is a critical resource for CNAS, and Pete will bring tremendous energy and experience to helping CNAS craft solutions for U.S. national security.”

Mr. Briger has served as a member of the Board of Directors of Fortress since November 2006 and was elected Co-Chairman in 2009. He has been a member of the Management Committee of Fortress since 2002 and is responsible for the Credit and Real Estate business at the company. Prior to joining Fortress in March 2002, Mr. Briger spent 15 years at Goldman Sachs and Co. and became a partner in 1996.

Mr. Briger serves on the Board of Tipping Point, a non-profit organization serving low-income families in San Francisco. He is also a Board Member of Caliber Schools, a network of charter schools committed to preparing for success in competitive four-year colleges and beyond. Mr. Briger serves as Chairman of the Investment Committee for U.S. Soccer.

Mr. Briger received a B.A. from Princeton University and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
