Tom Ricks' Blog "The Best Defense" Wins National Magazine Award
March 18, 2010 - Thomas E. Ricks' blog "The Best Defense" at ForeignPolicy.com won the 2010 National Magazine Award as the best blog of the year.
Sponsored by the American Society of Magazine Editors in association with the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, the National Magazine Awards were established in 1966 and have long been recognized as the preeminent awards for magazine journalism. “For nearly half a century, the National Magazine Awards have celebrated the best magazine journalism in the United States,” said Sid Holt, Chief Executive of the American Society of Magazine Editors. One hundred eighteen magazine websites and online-only magazines entered the National Magazine Awards for Digital Media this year. Thirty-seven magazine websites and online-only magazines were nominated.
In addition to this year’s National Magazine Award, Tom Ricks is the recipient of two Pulitzer Prizes and the author of several bestselling books including Fiasco: The American Military Adventure in Iraq, a chronicle of the events that followed the American invasion of Iraq. Ricks covered the U.S. military for The Washington Post from 2000 through 2008. Until the end of 1999 he had the same beat at the Wall Street Journal, where he was a reporter for 17 years. He has reported on U.S. military activities in Somalia, Haiti, Korea, Bosnia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Kuwait, Turkey, Afghanistan and Iraq.
