M.J. Crawford is a career Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State currently working as a Political-Military Officer with the Office of Euro-Atlantic Security Affairs. As part of the conventional arms control team, M.J. participates in regular interagency delegations to NATO to advance arms control priorities among NATO allies. She was also the Special Assistant in the Bureau for Arms Control, Verification, and Compliance.

Previously, M.J. was a Political Officer at U.S. Embassy Islamabad, where she engaged Pakistan’s diverse array of religious and opposition political parties. She completed a short-term assignment at U.S. Embassy Kabul ahead of the U.S. military drawdown in Afghanistan. In Europe, M.J. spearheaded human rights initiatives as a Political Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Moldova and served as a Consular Officer at U.S. Embassy Moscow. As a diplomat, M.J. was seconded to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe as an International Elections Observer for parliamentary elections in Moldova and to eastern Ukraine for the national presidential election in 2019.

Before joining the Foreign Service, M.J. worked with the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations and was a Public Assistance Specialist with the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Born and raised in Flint, Michigan, M.J. has a B.A. in International Relations from Michigan State University’s James Madison College and a Master of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University, where she was awarded a graduate research fellowship with the Institute for the Study of Diplomacy.
