Michael McBride, a native of Boston, Massachusetts, currently works as a consultant for the Department of Defense. Michael served in the Army as an Infantry Officer with three deployments to Afghanistan. He deployed with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) partnering with Afghan National Security Forces to conduct counterinsurgency operations focused on providing security, improving governance, and facilitating economic and social development and twice with the 75th Ranger Regiment where he led special operations raids. Michael’s military decorations include the Bronze Star with oak leaf cluster, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with two campaign stars, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Ranger Qualification Tab, Parachutist Badge, and Air Assault Badge.

Michael’s commentary on national defense, foreign affairs, and security issues in the Middle East and South Asia have been published in numerous outlets including Foreign Policy, War on the Rocks, and Defense News; he is also a regular contributor to Opedspace. He has presented on security issues to audiences across the United States government including the State Department, Department of Defense, and Intelligence Community. Michael holds a M.A. in Security Studies from the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University and a B.A. in History from Brown University.
