Ryan Bugas is a strategy officer at USG. In this role, he is on a team spearheading a refresh of a corporate strategy, working across the enterprise to align major programs with leadership priorities. He has been tapped to serve on several enterprise-wide strategic reviews of key missions and programs.

A Term Member on the Council on Foreign Relations, Ryan was previously detailed to the Department of State, where he served on a team who advised the Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad in his efforts to negotiate an agreement between the US and the Taliban leading up to the February 2020 US-Taliban Agreement. He has been an analyst on South Asia issues, a briefer for the Senior Director for South and Central Asia at the National Security Council, and an imagery analyst at the Department of Defense.

A native Virginian, Ryan holds an MPP from the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy at the University of Virginia (UVa), where he was a Bocock-Hitz Public Service Fellow. He received his BA with high distinction in Political and Social Thought and Foreign Affairs at UVa. His final year at UVa, he was selected to live on Thomas Jefferson's Lawn, one of the highest honors for an undergraduate student.
