Trump's Tariff Threat vs. Modi's 'No Compromise' On Farmers

Tensions escalate in the U.S.-India relationship over President Trump's threat of additional tariffs on India for purchasing Russian oil. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has firmly stated there will be, “no compromising the interests of our farmers, our dairy workers and fisheries.” This comes as the U.S. reportedly seeks greater access to India's sensitive agriculture and dairy markets. Lisa Curtis, senior fellow and director at the Center for a New American Security, finds the hardball tactics 'surprising' and warns that President Trump is “unnecessarily risking” the strategic partnership built over two decades by both Republican and Democratic presidents.
