Research Areas

Kate Johnston is an Associate Fellow with the Transatlantic Security Program at CNAS.

Immediately prior to joining CNAS, Kate worked as a Research Associate for Princeton’s Innovations for Successful Societies – leading research on post-hurricane reconstruction in Puerto Rico. She graduated in 2023 from Princeton’s MPP program, following ten years as a British diplomat. Kate has served overseas in Turkey (responding to the Syrian civil war) and South Sudan, as well as working in London on the Middle East and North Africa, and sanctions policy. Kate previously worked at the UK Department for Education, and Department for International Development.

Kate holds a BA in modern history and politics from Oxford University, and an MA in conflict, security, and development from Kings College, London.
