The China Challenge

The United States and China are in a competition to shape the rules and values of the 21st century. At stake is whether the prevailing international order endures, or whether Beijing’s vision—a world defined by great power spheres of influence, state-driven economic interactions, and creeping authoritarianism—will become the global reality.

Areas of focus for the CNAS Indo-Pacific Security Program in 2021 include blunting China’s digital expansion and addressing Beijing’s aggressive military and political behavior in the aftermath of the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
